How do I change my home page settings?

Change home page settings

1. Select 'Settings' next to Browser Homepage


2. Type-in your favorite home page or select a popular one.

You can also enter your own custom homepage and Web Companion will prevent it to be changed by other intrusive software.

  2. 3. Enter the desired custom adress
  3. 4. Click on the round button to select it

How do I change my default search engine settings?

While this feature is still in beta, it is still a pretty useful tool if you want to easily change your default search engine: Change default search engine settings

1. Select 'Settings' next to Default Search Engine

2. Select your favorite search engine from the list

How do I manually uninstall a search engine hijacker?

It's possible that the program did not uninstall correctly and is still “hijacking” your browsing experience. If you have identified the program that is causing the issue, we recommend that you verify the Control Panel if the program is still installed. If present, uninstall it using these steps :


Note: The program name in this example is "Trovi", but will likely be different on your PC.


    For Windows 8:

  • - Go to Charm bar (key w8 + C) and then "Settings", then "Control Panel"
  • - Choose "Programs and Features"
  • - Select Trovi and click on 'Uninstall' button

    For Windows 7:

  • - Click the "Start" button and select "Control Panel"
  • - Choose "Programs and Features"
  • - Select Trovi
  • - Click on "Uninstall" button

    For Windows Vista:

  • - From the "Start" menu in Windows, select "Control Panel"
  • - Choose "Programs and Features"
  • - Select Trovi
  • - Click "Uninstall" and then "Continue" to remove it

In case you want to restore your homepage and search engine to what they were before installing Web Companion, just check the boxes during uninstallation process.

How do I manually update my version of Web Companion?

To insure Web Companion protects your computer to the best of its abilities, you need to have the latest version installed. At any time you can check if a newer version of the app is available by following these instructions.

  1. 1. Go to your Windows Tray to find the Web Companion icon
  2. 2. Click on the icon to open Web Companion
  3. 3. Click on Options (the gear icon in the upper right corner)

4. Click About Web Companion at the bottom of the Software Settings menu.

5. Click Check now. Web Companion will verify if a newer version exists. If your version is up to date, a corresponding message will be displayed
6. Click on Update Now to download and install the new version of Web Companion

How do I send Lavasoft a snapshot of my system info?

1. Go to your Windows Tray to find the Web Companion icon

2. Click on the icon to open Web Companion

3. Click on the gear icon at the top right corner to access Options


4. Under Report a problem, click on Report a problem
5. Fill the form 6. Make sure the Help Lavasoft gather data (...) option is checked 7. Click Submit

How do I revert back to the home page before Web Companion was installed?

To send us a message through the program, here are the steps you need to follow:

1. Go to your Windows Tray to find the Web Companion icon

2. Click on the icon to open Web Companion

3. Click on Settings next to Browser Homepage

4. At the bottom of the Browser Homepage Settings menu, click on Revert

How to reset Mozilla Firefox:

1. Open Mozilla Firefox

2. Click Tools (or the 3 bars icon, in the top-right corner)

3. Click Open Help Menu icon (a circle with a ? inside)


4. Select Troubleshooting Information


5. Click Reset Firefox

6. Click Reset Firefox (to confirm).

Firefox will then revert to its default settings.

4. Scroll down to the bottom of the Settings page


5. Click Show advanced settings

Show or hide extensions

You can choose to show or hide extensions.

1. To hide extensions, click and drag your address bar to the right. The address bar will hide the leftmost extensions first.
